The Darkness, a hangover and then some cycling

Friday 9th November

Today was a nice day. Even though I had to teach my student in the afternoon I managed to go out and cycle about 30 km in the sunshine of the Casa de Campo park in the south of Madrid. I wasn’t trying to do this distance today in a record time so, it probably took me about an hour and twenty minutes, but I did no hill climbs today, as I want to keep relatively fresh for tomorrow. By the way, I am listening to this song from The Darkness

I love the way Justin Hawkins sings in this falsetto, if you can’t understand what he is saying , please look at these lyrics.

In the afternoon, I went to visit my student Marcos and we decided to go to the cinema and see lo imposible, which is a film about a Spanish family who go on holiday in Thailand and the tsunami happens. I am not going to tell you any more, but it is in English and it is worth seeing. It makes you realise that we are very lucky in the west and we , generally, have everything we need – family, love, food, shelter the basic yet fundamental things in life.

In the evening I was invited to a friend’s birthday party, which was really nice and didn’t finish too late. What I find interesting in Spain is that the person whose birthday it is pays for the drinks. So, how could I refuse a few free drinks? Of course, I offered to buy him a drink but he always had one in his hand. I finished the night relatively drunk. I woke up with a horrible hangover on Saturday, around 12 pm. I have decided for many years, that when I am in a routine of sport/ training, no matter how bad I feel, or if I am hungover, I will go out and run or go to the gym. Today was no exception and despite feeling awful I went to the park and did two hours 45 minutes, which was most likely 65 – 70 km. I decided to punish myself and climb as many hills as possible, I felt good and my hangover diminished.

Tweed Ride 2013

This afternoon was really interesting. I am helping my friend Jeronimo Martinez prepare for his Tweed Ride Event next year.

This is an event where people are invited to participate riding and showing off both their bicycles and their tweed clothes. The tweed fashion originally comes from Scottish design and wools woven from local yarn.

Do have a look at some pictures. http://tweedridemadrid.com/

Everyone who has attended the events so far has looked amazing and I really love this vintage, retro style.

So, anyway..myself, Jeronimo & Edu went to get some measurements from Aspen Club http://www.aspenclubbritsinny.com/

who will be providing us with our own made-to-measure suits this year, so I feel very excited, and privileged to ge a new suit sponsored by them. I will have to look at the footage we shot in their store to see how we can edit this together into the videos for www.showmeenglish.com
